Castle Angers Monplaisir - 15 bedrooms - 1100m²
DESCRIPTION
Ref.4048: Beautiful 19th-century château on the banks of the Loire, 25 minutes from Angers.
Built on the banks of the Loire, close to charming, typically Loire Valley villages, this elegant 19th-century château is in the “Valley of the Kings”, so called because for centuries the kings of France made it their summer retreats or principal residences.
Set in an area rich in heritage, the property is ideally located, with easy access from Paris and Bordeaux and close to the economic, industrial and university centres of Angers and Nantes, as well as major rail and air connections in western France (Angers and Nantes). Essential shops are nearby in the village, while the city of Angers, a 30-minute drive away, offers a full range of shops and services, as well as numerous tourist attractions.
Facing south, this majestic château of approximately 1,100 m² stands on 7 hectares of land (including an area suitable for development), on a gentle slope overlooking the Loire.
The three floors of the interior are all served by a lift and are laid out as follows:
The ground floor comprises a large, spacious vestibule (with 4.30 m-high ceilings), opening onto a remarkably understated stone staircase; beautiful reception rooms (a dining room, a sitting room and a library); a large kitchen with a storeroom behind it; and cloakrooms. Features include classic and herringbone-pattern oak parquet flooring, cabochon-tiled floors, marble fireplaces, overmantel panels, finely crafted wooden dado rails and beautifully decorated ceilings.
An internal door gives direct access to the two cellars in the basement. A third cellar houses the boiler room.
On the first floor (with 3 m-high ceilings), a corridor leads to a private suite to the south-west, comprising a winter sitting room, a bathroom, a large bedroom, a WC and spacious dressing rooms and cupboards. To the north-west are two bedrooms, one with a shower room. To the east, a corridor leads to four bedrooms, three of which have a shower room and WC.
The second floor has five bedrooms on one side, two with shower rooms and WCs, and, on the other, three bedrooms, two shower rooms and a large games room/dormitory.
The four turrets provide access to the eight corner bedrooms, four on each floor.
The attic is accessible from the second floor.
In addition to the château, the property includes two further outbuildings, which have until now been used to accommodate employees of a large company:
The first outbuilding (390 m²) is attached to the rear of the château and can be accessed directly from it via a vestibule. It consists mainly of offices, meeting rooms, work areas, and kitchen and dining areas.
The second (980 m²) is detached and set apart from the château. It contains numerous office spaces, meeting rooms, equipped conference rooms, and kitchen and dining areas.
Both outbuildings were also included in the 2006–2008 restoration campaign and are in as impeccable a condition as the château.
There are also additional amenity outbuildings (a chicken coop, sheep shed, garage and greenhouse).
A beautiful, attractively laid-out English-style park planted with fine trees (cedars, oaks, lime trees, ash trees, umbrella pines and cypresses), some of them centuries old. With a lovely pond of approximately 7,500 m² and a small broadleaf woodland, the grounds are easy to explore thanks to the surfaced paths that run around the park. The total area is 7 ha 13 a 22 ca.
