New dwellings were added to the north of the building in the 16th century, drowning out the previously flanking keep. A fine bossed watchtower in the north-west corner has been preserved.
Today, Sampzon castle remains a witness to the past, anchored in its landscape. It towers above the River Ardèche, proud of its marks of time, revealing all the eras it has passed through through its mix of architecture, making it a noble and unique building in its own right.
