It was the Viscounts of Turenne who allowed the Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem to settle here in gratitude for their services during the first crusades.

Over the centuries, the Château became a pleasure house inhabited by the local Lords, who owned vast tracts of land around the Château dedicated to vine growing and livestock farming. One of the entrances to the inner courtyard is decorated with bunches of grapes carved in stone to mark the entrance to the chateau's cellars and the former stables have now become a vast reception room where banquets, weddings and seminars are held.
